The Bucks County Choral Society is pleased to announce the winners of their annual scholarships for the Westminster Choir College Summer High School Institutes. This year’s recipients are Central Bucks High School South sophomore Brandon Sood of Warrington, and Holicong Middle School ninth grader, Anjali Bhatt of Doylestown. The two $750 scholarships are awarded to high school choristers exhibiting exceptional musical talent and interest.
The two week, nationally recognized residential camps at Westminster Choir College draw participants from across the country and are staffed by clinicians from West-minster and other prominent schools of music around the nation.
Brandon Sood is an accomplished violinist as well as a vocalist. In addition to singing in the Central Bucks South Symphonic, Men’s and Chamber Choirs, he had a supporting lead in the musical, ‘How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying’. While not ready to declare a music major, he states that whether a vocation or avocation, music will remain a central part of his life. Teacher Cynthia Young had glowing things to say about Brandon’s participation. Brandon will attend the Westminster Vocal Institute.
Anjali Bhatt, who is excited about attending the Solo Vocal Artist Camp at Westminster, is the youngest winner on record for the BCCS scholarship. Teacher Jim Glaser recommends Anjali very highly based on her strong performance in both the Ninth Grade Choir and Holicong Select Choir. She was chosen to solo at the BCMEA County Festival performance of Schubert’s
Kyrie. Anjali has also participated in numerous school and community plays. Both Anjali and Brandon are taking private music lessons at the Community Conservatory in Doylestown.
This investment and support of youth in local communities is one of the key outreach components of the mission of the Bucks County Choral Society as the group moves to extend its influence beyond the concert stage and the performance hall.
