The Bucks County Choral Society, with a boost from Miss America 2009
Katie Stam, will host its third annual Sounds of Spring Gala on Saturday, May 2 at the Aldie Mansion in Doylestown. Entitled
Boardwalk Promenade - A Nostalgic Review of Atlantic City, the Gala features dining and dancing, big band music and entertainment from Choral Society members, and an outstanding silent auction.
The nostalgic Atlantic City themed evening includes much that brings back the Atlantic City of days gone by - the songs, the styles, the food, the feelings, and more. Atlantic City is the legendary 'home'' of the Miss America Pageant, and it turns out that Katie has been a singer for most of her life, so there could no more appropriate guest for the Choral Society's Gala. Katie will join Gala guests for the evening and will also take part in the evening's entertainment. Gala attendees are invited to have their photograph taken with and personally autographed by Katie.
During her year of service as Miss America, Katie will travel approximately 20,000 miles each month speaking to audiences about her platform of Passion for service: Promoting Community Service and Involvement, and acting as the official National Goodwill Ambassador for Children's Miracle Network. Children's Miracle Network, a non-profit organization dedicated to saving and improving the lives of children by raising funds for children's hospitals, is the national partner of the Miss America Organization.
Katie is a student at the University of Indianapolis. Her scholastic ambition is to earn her bachelor's degree in Communication with an emphasis on electronic media, and she ultimately hopes to become a television news reporter and anchor. Along with the title of Miss America 2009, Katie won a $50,000 scholarship to continue her education. For the talent portion of the Miss America competition, Katie sang "Via Dolorosa".
The Miss America Organization is one of the nation's leading achievement programs and the world's largest provider of scholarship assistance for young women. Last year, the Miss America Organization and its state and local affiliates made available more than $45 million in scholarship assistance. For more information, visit www.missamerica.org.
