Philadelphia Episcopal Cathedral.
Lloyd’s choirs have performed at conferences of Chorus America and the ACDA, and he has led his choirs on nine international tours to Latin America, Africa, the Middle East, and Eastern Europe. Each of these tours has focused on shared concerts and repertoire with a diverse range of local choirs. During his recent term as Repertoire & Standards Chair for Community Choirs, Eastern Division of the American Choral Directors Association, Lloyd organized the first Community Choir Festival at the 2010 conference.
Lloyd holds degrees from the Oberlin Conservatory (bassoon), Yale School of Music (voice and opera), Yale Divinity School (pastoral theology), and a doctorate from the University of Illinois (conducting). He has performed frequently as a guest conductor, clinician, and tenor soloist. His nationally published articles and conference presentations have covered a wide range of subject matter, including the performance history of the African-American Spiritual, the Sacred Concerts of Duke Ellington, the vocal chamber music of Hans Gál, teaching sacred music in secular contexts, and practical issues related to performance practice in both early music and international repertoire. His compositions have been published by Alliance Music and performed by the Philadelphia Singers. Current projects include an extended work related to the life of German theologian and martyr Dietrich Bonhoeffer and a reduced concert edition of Kurt Weill’s The Eternal Road.
Thomas Lloyd lives in Haverford with his wife, Jane Kamp, who is Director of Development for the Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts at the University of Pennsylvania; they have two children in college, Jeremy and Devin.
