SENIOR SING "RECAP"
released November 9, 2013
Over sixty members of Senior choirs representing more than a half dozen retirement communities from Bucks and Montgomery Counties gathered at Foulkeways in Gwynedd for the fall Senior Sing Festival sponsored by BCCS and coordinated by the Outreach Committee, chaired by Kim Keller. Guest clinician, Sandra (Sandi) Stouffer of Riddle Village in Media (Delaware County) joined BCCS Artistic Director, Tom Lloyd, in providing vocal instruction and teaching two fun and lively medleys to participants. Post event comments from several attendees indicated appreciation for Ms. Stauffer's information, style of presentation and pacing in addition to enjoying the opportunity to learn directly from Tom Lloyd. Learning that Ms Stouffer's combined chorus at Riddle Village has 55 singers, one participant hollered to bring them the next time!
Shirley Wunsch, director of the Pine Run Villagers Chorus, said she plans to incorporate the "All Aboard" medley in her spring program. Numerous other participants observed that time was well managed at the Wednesday, Nov 6 event. Attendance was down from previous Senior Sings because of schedule conflicts for some usual participants due to the Wednesday (not Thursday) day of the week, but interest is high for the Spring Festival to be held in Bucks County in 2014.
Steve Rock coordinated the event with help from Eric Muth and ten additional BCCS Ambassadors who were on hand to welcome, guide, share lunch, photograph and add vocal support to the group when learning the new songs. After lunch, a couple of groups performed pieces they have been learning before all joined to sing the two pieces introduced in the morning. Senior Sings was designed and developed by Tom Lloyd and Dr. Helen Kemp almost ten years ago to support choral activity and music making in retirement communities and other community based centers where seniors gather. This BCCS Outreach program has received national recognition.
