The Choral Society is proud to bring to the Philadelphia region for the first time this rarely performed 1903 masterpiece by the greatest English composer of the Romantic era. The Apostles is a large-scale dramatic work, opening when Jesus first calls the Apostles and finishing with his charge to them to establish the first church. Along with Elgar's full range of mystical and glorious choral writing, the characters of Mary Magdalene and Judas are given deeply penetrating and profoundly moving scenes. With a stellar cast of internationally acclaimed soloists and the outstanding Riverside Symphonia, this promises to be a very special performance not to be missed.
