Community Partnership

Bucks County Choral Society and Network of Victim Assistance Collaborate

Milo Morris, Marketing Chair at BCCS (R)

DOYLESTOWN, PA, August 11, 2016 - Bucks County Choral Society has formed a community partnership with Network of Victim Assistance (NOVA) based on the content of this season’s initial concert. The theme of this partnership is "Healthy Families, Healthy Community". While NOVA works to educate, empower and support children, adults and families towards the promotion of a society free of violence, the Choral Society works to strengthen the social fabric of the wider community through the performing arts by working with community organizations who serve the greater good.

The springboard for this partnership is Choral Society Artistic Director Thomas Lloyd’s pairing of two works for choir and orchestra. Mozart’s "Requiem in D Minor" and "A Child’s Requiem" by Lehigh University Professor of Music, Steven Sametz, will be presented on Sunday, October 23 at 4:00 at Our Lady of Guadalupe on Cold Spring Creamery Road, Doylestown for a concert titled Hope and Remembrance. Riverside Symphonia and the Princeton Girlchoir will join the one hundred voice Choral Society for the occasion.

Hope and Remembrance showcases the redemptive power of music and brings a full range of emotion to bear with Mozart’s Requiem, portions of which are familiar to those who enjoyed the Oscar winning film, Amadeus. The Sametz Requiem incorporates the writings of school children in the aftermath of the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Newtown, Connecticut. The Choral Society’s partnership with NOVA allows a full-circle experience for the community where music meets real life.

Members of the Choral Society will make this partnership a reality by joining NOVA volunteers on a number of projects this fall; all designed to support victims of crime. Among those activities are a clean-up day at the Crime Victims’ Commemorative Arbor at Core Creek Park on the shore of Lake Luxembourg, a donation drive to collect items for NOVA’s Thrift Shop, and a performance by the Choral Society at NOVA’s Lights, Camera, AUCTION! at the Doylestown Country Club on October 13, 2016 at 6:00 p.m..
